Same-day orchid delivery across NYC
We deliver hand-arranged orchid plants and cut arrangements across Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO and Long Island City. Order by 2pm ET on any weekday or Saturday and your orchid arrives that afternoon, hand-delivered by our team — not handed off to a courier app.
Manhattan delivery is $20. Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO are $25. Long Island City is $35. Every orchid leaves our UWS studio gift-wrapped, with a hand-written card, and the recipient gets a text photo of the arrangement before we ring the doorbell so it's not left in a hallway.
If you need to send anonymously, we don't include sender details on the card unless you ask us to. If you want to schedule for a future date, you can pick any day in the next two months at checkout.
The orchid varieties we carry
Most florists offer "orchids" as a vague category. We carry five distinct varieties, each suited to different rooms, gifts and longevity expectations.
Phalaenopsis (Moth Orchid) — $85–$220
The most common orchid in NYC apartments for good reason: blooms last 6–10 weeks, the plant tolerates indoor light, and rebloom is realistic with basic care. We carry white, blush, kaleidoscope (multi-colour), and rare striped varieties. Single-stem and double-stem available. Best for: housewarmings, office gifts, sympathy, get-well.
Cymbidium — $145–$385
Large, architectural blooms with 8–12 flowers per spike. Lasts 8–10 weeks in bloom. Cooler-tolerant than phalaenopsis, so suits drafty pre-war apartments. Best for: statement gifts, anniversary, executive gifting, lobbies.
Dendrobium — $95–$165
Compact, prolific bloomers. Multiple stems with smaller, butterfly-shaped flowers in pink, purple, white. Lasts 4–6 weeks. Tropical look without taking over a side table. Best for: thank-you gifts, hostess gifts, smaller apartments.
Oncidium (Dancing Lady) — $115–$185
Sprays of small yellow or white flowers — looks like a swarm of dancers when in full bloom. Some varieties (Sharry Baby) are chocolate-scented. Lasts 4–6 weeks. Best for: anyone who already has phalaenopsis at home and wants something different.
Vanda & rare orchids — $185–$450
Hanging-root varieties, jewel orchids, and one-off rare cultivars sourced from our regular trips through the NYC flower district. Limited availability. We post what's in stock on our Instagram weekly. Best for: collectors, designers, anyone who's seen everything.
Which orchid is right for the occasion?
If you're sending an orchid as a gift and unsure where to start, the variety matters less than matching the message to the moment.
How to care for an orchid (the four things that matter)
Orchids have a reputation for being difficult. They aren't — they're just not a houseplant you treat like a houseplant. Get these four things right and your phalaenopsis will rebloom within a year.
1. Water once a week, not more
The single biggest killer of orchids in NYC apartments is overwatering. Roots need to dry between waterings. Once a week, place the orchid in the kitchen sink, run room-temperature water through the bark medium for 30 seconds, let it drain completely, then put it back. That's it. If the leaves get wrinkled, you waited too long. If the roots are mushy, you watered too much.
2. Bright indirect light, not direct sun
A north-facing window is too dark. A south-facing windowsill in full afternoon sun will burn the leaves. The sweet spot in most Manhattan apartments is two to four feet back from an east-facing or west-facing window, or behind a sheer curtain.
3. Temperature swings trigger rebloom
Phalaenopsis need a 10–15°F nighttime drop in autumn to set new flower spikes. If you keep your apartment at a constant 72°F year-round, you'll get one set of blooms and then a healthy plant that won't rebloom. Easiest fix: move the orchid near a slightly draughty window from late September to early November.
4. Repot every two years, not every season
Use orchid bark, not potting soil. Repot when the bark breaks down to fine particles or roots are spilling out of the pot. February is the right month — after blooming, before the new growth cycle.
Why order orchids from Alaric
We're a single-location florist at 54 W 70th St on the Upper West Side, operating since 2006. We hand-select every orchid at the NYC flower district twice a week, which is why our varieties shift — we don't sell what we can't get from growers we trust.
Our team arranges every orchid by hand the morning of delivery. The pot, the moss top-dressing, the ribbon, the card — none of it is templated. If you order three orchids for three different recipients, you'll get three distinct arrangements.
4.8 stars across 600+ Google reviews, most of which mention the same two things: the orchid arrived looking better than the website photo, and the recipient called the sender to thank them specifically.
Frequently asked questions
How long do your orchids last?
Phalaenopsis blooms last 6–10 weeks. Cymbidium 8–10 weeks. Dendrobium and oncidium 4–6 weeks. With basic care (water once a week, indirect light), the plant itself lives for years and reblooms annually.
Which NYC neighbourhoods do you deliver to?
All of Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Long Island City, and parts of the Lower East Side, Tribeca, and West Village. Manhattan is $20, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO $25, Long Island City $35. We don't deliver to the outer boroughs beyond these neighbourhoods — if you need an orchid sent to Queens or the Bronx, we can arrange a courier at cost.
What's the cutoff for same-day delivery?
2pm ET, Monday through Saturday. Order after 2pm and we deliver next available day. Sunday orders deliver Monday.
Can I send an orchid anonymously?
Yes — leave the "from" field blank at checkout and we won't include sender details on the card. Some recipients will ask our delivery team who it's from; we say "anonymous" if instructed.
What if the orchid arrives damaged?
We replace it the next day at no charge. Text us a photo at the number on your receipt and we'll redeliver — usually same-day if reported before 1pm. We've had to do this maybe 10 times in the past year. Every plant is hand-inspected before it leaves the studio.
Are orchids appropriate for sympathy?
Yes. White phalaenopsis and white cymbidium are an established sympathy flower in NYC and across most cultural traditions. They last longer than cut arrangements (a meaningful detail when the recipient is overwhelmed) and signal a calm, lasting presence rather than the immediate intensity of cut white lilies. If you want a written suggestion for what to say on the card, message us when you order.
Do you offer corporate orchid programs?
We deliver weekly or biweekly phalaenopsis arrangements to offices, hotels and residential buildings across Manhattan. Typical contract: 6–12 orchids per delivery, replaced when blooms drop. Pricing scales with volume. Email events@alaricflowers.com or call 212-308-3794 for a quote.
Can I visit the studio to pick out an orchid?
Yes — we're at 54 W 70th St (between Central Park West and Columbus), open 9am–7pm Monday through Saturday and 10am–5pm Sunday. Walk-ins welcome. Call first if you want a specific variety so we can hold one back from the floor.
What if I want a variety you don't have today?
Email or call by Tuesday and we can source most varieties for Friday delivery. We're at the NYC flower district twice a week and most cultivars are available with a few days' notice. Vanda and rare jewel orchids may take longer (1–3 weeks).
